Jonathan McKinnon decides to quit the football team in the beginning of this section and Jonathan’s coaches accuse Sundara for being responsibly for him quitting. Cathy Gates and Sundara also get into an argument over rather Jonathan is happy with his newly changed life. Then, Jonathan comes to talk to Sundara about the fight that he had with his parents. Jonathan claims that he was upset because his mother, Mrs. McKinnon, did not think it was a good idea for Dr. McKinnon to personally go to a refugee camp to help Cambodian immigrants. It is obvious that Jonathan feels as though Sundara will approve of his arugment, but instead she counters, saying that Jonathan never argue with his parents. She gets very upset and says, “Not my fault you mad at your father, not my fault you quit the team, and especially not my fault everybody die in Cambodia” (Crew 166-167). Later in this section, Soka scolds Sundara for talking to Jonathan again. However, this time Naro defends Sundara, saying that Soka is not showing Sundara the affection that she deserves, but simply regarding her as a mere "responsibility" (Crew 173). Sundara decides to go visit Moni and while she is with her at the garbage dump, she breaks into tears. When Sundara returns back home, Soka apologizes for being too cruel on Sundara. Naro tells Sundara and Soka that Dr. McKinnon called to ask if Sundara could teach him Khmer so that he could communicate when he gets to the Cambodian refugee camp. In this section, Soka hears that her sister Valinn is finally immigrating to the United States after having lived in a refugee camp for years. Soka and Sundara also discuss aSoka’s baby. Soka assures Sundara that the baby's death was not her fault. Later in this section, Dr. McKinnon leaves for Cambodia. After he leaves, Jonathan kisses Sundara and tells her that he loves her. When Valinn arrives at the airport, she tells Sundara that Mayoury, Sundara’s sister, is safe in the refugee camp in Cambodia. After hearing the news, Sundara meets Jonathan and reveals the news about her sister and tells him that she loves him.
