Ravy Tep is the son of Soka and Naro and the brother of Pon. Ravy has quickly adapted to American culture as is shown from his love for McDonalds, football, and Starwars. Soka is surprisingly lenient on his "Americanized" behavior and does not critique it as harshly as even the slightest hint of American cultural assimilation in Sundara. It seems as though Ravy has forgotten about the horrors of Cambodia or simply chooses not to linger on the horrific memories of the Khmr Rouge for he is a high-spirited young boy who clearly enjoys his life in America This bright personality serves as a refreshing wave of light to the often dark and serious attitudes of the other characters in the novel.
